Pricing for genealogy research is done on an hourly basis at $30/hour with a two hour minimum, plus costs (sometimes there is a cost for copies/records). Genealogy research is charged by the amount of time spent researching and digging for records. The charge is not based on the results. Keep in mind that time can be spent with the intent of finding a needed record to prove an ancestor or fact about an ancestor, and yet never yield results. 

 

I've been doing research for about seventeen years. I'll use every trick I know to find the records, stories, photos, and all other details to help you tell the story of who you are. At this time I am not, however, able to travel in order to find the elusive records.
